The NIWA exhibit features more than twenty NW indie authors and will be displaying 170+ titles.

The event runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m, October 6 - 9.

New News You Never Knew About Books, but no Gnus

As I write inside the cozy warmth of Insomnia Coffee Company it is a blustery-rainy day outside on the Oregon north coast. That's what you call perfection for a writer; no temptation to be enjoying the shoreline trio of surf, sand and sun. However I am enjoying a trail mix cookie and a white chocolate mocha while listening to big band tunes and working on a few writing related projects (including this blog post). Now here's the new news:

The New Book

The new book shipment arrived yesterday!

Earlier this morning I mailed out the first six orders of my new book, Hell, Heaven and Back. Signed, sealed, sent. Okay, one wasn't an order, it was a review copy. I have four local orders to deliver so leaves twenty out of my initial order.

If you want one (signed, sealed and sent for a flat $10) let me know. That's cheaper than Amazon ($9.99 + postage). Whatever I have left come next weekend I'll take to sell at the Portland Home & Garden Show.

Garden of Books

And speaking of the Portland Home & Garden Show: From Thursday, Feb. 25 through Sunday, Feb. 28 there will be thirty Oregon and Washington Author's books at the NIWA Garden of Books. That represents more than 100 titles in all genres (except Western, I don't think there are any of those).

Many of the authors will be making appearances to do signings. I will be at the show 2-6 p.m., Sun. Feb. 28 with all eleven of my titles, including my newest, Hell, Heaven and Back, hot off the press (no pun intended). In essence the official public launch party. There's a discount coupon for $2 off the show admission here and parking is free after 4 p.m. (before that it will cost you an arm and a leg).

Book Publishing Workshop

If you're close to the Oregon North Coast area and wish to know how to go about self-publishing with relative ease and little cost, I'm giving a two-hour workshop on the topic 1-3 p.m., Sat., March 26 at the Tolovana Arts Colony hall in Cannon Beach, Oregon.

If you click on the graphic on the left it will get larger and you can see all the things I'll be covering in this intensive workshop. (Plus, participation gets you some free consultation time, too, for when you're actually working on that book of yours.) Cost is $25.

Commute or stay, it'll be a great day.

Indie Author & Book Fair

Mark your calendar for April 10. That's the day of the North Coast Indie Author & Book Fair in the courtyard behind Jupiter's Books in Cannon Beach, Oregon. The book fair will follow on the heels of the weekend's Get Lit at the Beach event.

We're expecting 24 Oregon and Washington authors for the 12:30 to 3 p.m. fair. To date we have eighteen authors signed up with room for six more (contact me if interested in booth space).

Short Stories for New Book

My publishing company eyrie press is accepting short story submissions for an upcoming anthology called Chicken Poop on My Sole (subtitled Funny Fodder from the Farm). It is to be a collection of short, true stories of humor and inspiration about farm life and country living.

We need several dozen more stories to complete the collection before publication in time for the harvest season of 2016. So...

If you have a story to tell and share contact me for details on how to be included and get copies to sell or give as gifts.

Portland H&G Show Book Sale a Success

Author Gregory E. Zschomler at the Portland Home & Garden Show

My sales at the Portland Spring Home & Garden Show were good.

It was a pleasure to meet buyers and sign their books. I also enjoyed meeting new authors and chatting with the old ones. Not that they are particularly old, but I mean that I've known them for a while.

Some of my title supplies have dwindled significantly (for example I have very few Playhouse Phantom and BPZ Cajun & Caribbean Cookbooks on hand now). I do have more of the newer books--especially Rocketman--for signing when ordered from me.

$10 will get you either Rocketman or The Amish vs. the Zombies (plus $2 P&H); or buy both for $20 and the shipping is FREE. (You can also get the three book set of the Bayou Boys Adventures for $20 post-paid, while in-stock supplies last.)

ROCKETMAN Launches at the Portland H&G Show

3D view of the final front cover.
The new book, ROCKETMAN: From the Trailer Park to Insomnia and Beyond, has gone to press! I'll have thirty copies in my possession by the first week of February.

I'm planning to take them to (and sell them at) the Spring Portland Home & Garden Show, February 19-23. They'll be available at the NIWA Book Booth the entire time (until they sell out), but I'll be on hand to sell and sign 3-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20 and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 21.

If you can't make it to the show please order on Amazon (it will be available the first week of February) and catch me sometime if you want it signed. Or you may reserve a copy and I'll sign it for you and mail it ($2 extra). The book is $9.99.

After that you can get copies at your local bookstore. Jacobson's Books & More, in Hillsburo, Oregon) will carry it and other stores can order it in for you (if it's not yet in stock).

3D view of the back cover
Of course I'll have all my other books for sale (all but The Amish vs.the Zombies) at discount prices.
Plus the works of at least twenty-five other indie authors will be on hand and many of them will be signing, too.

Admission to the show is $10 for adults and Free for children. BUT you can get a $2 off coupon by clicking here. And remember, parking (usually $7 per vehicle) is FREE on Thursday and after 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Here's the word from the back cover:

In the tradition of humorists Patrick McMannus, Dave Barry, Tim Allen, Bill Cosby, and (the author’s favorite) Bill Bryson, Zschomler takes a look at some of life’s quirks and quandaries through a comedic lens. It’s a look back at a childhood in the 60s, followed by marriage and family in the 80s up until now.

“Inside, you’ll encounter a humorous and bitter-sweet slice of Americana. Always entertaining and encouraging, often auto-biographical, ROCKETMAN, will take the reader on a joy ride of wit and wisdom. This work transcends the humble anthology and becomes a conduit of lessons-learned by a very smart man who’s lived abundantly. It’s a multi-vitamin for the soul that you must dive into right now (unless you plan to set aside time for a warm drink and a fire).”

~from the Foreword by author Andy R. Bunch, Diner Tales

Includes stories like: Rocketman; Bullies and Boxing; Haunted House; Turkey Lurkey; I Believe in Santa; The Christmas Tree Tyrant; Oh, the Joys of Bus Travel; Strawberry Fields, Feels Like Forever; All American Dad; Little Sister; The Mysteries of Flight and Females; Insomnia: And Then There Were Kids; Band on a Run; Playing Ball, and a whole lot more.

SHELFIE!

Photos by Andy R. Bunch

My book The Amish vs. The Zombies makes its appearance at the Portland Home & Garden Show.

These are the last ones of AVZ that I have on hand. I sent six to the show and took four with me on my trip to Fresno (which my son sold to his co-workers). I'll be reordering in time for Christmas though. (Recommended for 13 and up.)

Also the last of Playhouse Phantom books are at the show, too. The story takes place on Halloween and so it would make a great book to purchase now. (I'll have some more of those by Thanksgiving as well.)

And don't forget: I have a new book for children coming out on November 22. "I'm Samson," said Sydney was written by me and illustrated by April Bullard.

BTW: You still have tomorrow to visit the show on Sunday.

Still Time to Catch the NIWA Authors at the Portland Home & Garden Show

My book table setup during my Author Spotlight.
Sales have been fair at the Portland Home and Garden show over the past two days.

I've sold about a dozen books thus far (six Bayou Boys books and six cookbooks or so). Tomorrow is the big day so I'm hoping to sell that many more.

Those who bought cookbooks are rather excited about it. Hope you can come out tomorrow (Sat.) and see me between 4 and 8 p.m.

The books will still be there through 6 p.m. Sunday, but I won't be there. Still, more than 30 local authors friends and 100 books are represented.
