Signing on Saturday

I know, I know. Sorry, I've not posted in some time. I've been out of town and house hunting. Anyway, tomorrow's the big day for my last Cannon Beach signing. Read more here. Come on out and kick a tire or two.

New News You Never Knew About Books, but no Gnus

As I write inside the cozy warmth of Insomnia Coffee Company it is a blustery-rainy day outside on the Oregon north coast. That's what you call perfection for a writer; no temptation to be enjoying the shoreline trio of surf, sand and sun. However I am enjoying a trail mix cookie and a white chocolate mocha while listening to big band tunes and working on a few writing related projects (including this blog post). Now here's the new news:

The New Book

The new book shipment arrived yesterday!

Earlier this morning I mailed out the first six orders of my new book, Hell, Heaven and Back. Signed, sealed, sent. Okay, one wasn't an order, it was a review copy. I have four local orders to deliver so leaves twenty out of my initial order.

If you want one (signed, sealed and sent for a flat $10) let me know. That's cheaper than Amazon ($9.99 + postage). Whatever I have left come next weekend I'll take to sell at the Portland Home & Garden Show.

Garden of Books

And speaking of the Portland Home & Garden Show: From Thursday, Feb. 25 through Sunday, Feb. 28 there will be thirty Oregon and Washington Author's books at the NIWA Garden of Books. That represents more than 100 titles in all genres (except Western, I don't think there are any of those).

Many of the authors will be making appearances to do signings. I will be at the show 2-6 p.m., Sun. Feb. 28 with all eleven of my titles, including my newest, Hell, Heaven and Back, hot off the press (no pun intended). In essence the official public launch party. There's a discount coupon for $2 off the show admission here and parking is free after 4 p.m. (before that it will cost you an arm and a leg).

Book Publishing Workshop

If you're close to the Oregon North Coast area and wish to know how to go about self-publishing with relative ease and little cost, I'm giving a two-hour workshop on the topic 1-3 p.m., Sat., March 26 at the Tolovana Arts Colony hall in Cannon Beach, Oregon.

If you click on the graphic on the left it will get larger and you can see all the things I'll be covering in this intensive workshop. (Plus, participation gets you some free consultation time, too, for when you're actually working on that book of yours.) Cost is $25.

Commute or stay, it'll be a great day.

Indie Author & Book Fair

Mark your calendar for April 10. That's the day of the North Coast Indie Author & Book Fair in the courtyard behind Jupiter's Books in Cannon Beach, Oregon. The book fair will follow on the heels of the weekend's Get Lit at the Beach event.

We're expecting 24 Oregon and Washington authors for the 12:30 to 3 p.m. fair. To date we have eighteen authors signed up with room for six more (contact me if interested in booth space).

Short Stories for New Book

My publishing company eyrie press is accepting short story submissions for an upcoming anthology called Chicken Poop on My Sole (subtitled Funny Fodder from the Farm). It is to be a collection of short, true stories of humor and inspiration about farm life and country living.

We need several dozen more stories to complete the collection before publication in time for the harvest season of 2016. So...

If you have a story to tell and share contact me for details on how to be included and get copies to sell or give as gifts.

Finally I'll be at the Coos History (and Maritime) Museum

I'll be at the Coos History Museum October 10 for sales and signings. The beautiful, new museum opened this summer and has graciously opened up one the their two expo halls for an Oregon Author Book Fair of which I will be a part. I'll have all my books for sale , but will be featuring Louie, the Lonely Lighthouse.

Come on out and join about a dozen local authors from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at 1210 N. Front St. in Coos Bay, Oregon and enjoy the new museum, too (admission applies to museum viewing, but not the book fair).

Want to know more?

If you've not been to Coos Bay recently, well, here's your chance. The Coos County Historical Society just celebrated it’s grand opening of the brand new Coos Historical & Maritime Museum. The location is right between US Highway 101 and the bay. Before they actually had any installations in place the building itself was a complete work of art. Handcrafted details abound as your eye travels around from the floor to the hand made chairs and on and on. Two large conference rooms face onto the bay. It makes you feel like you are in a boat while looking out the huge windows.

On Saturday, October 10, they will be holding the first annual Oregon Author’s Book Signing event. Graciously, they have offered one of those conference rooms to select Oregon authors to sell and sign books while visiting with the public.

What a wonderful opportunity for us to visit a lovely area of our state while buying a few books prior to the hectic holidays.
  • I'll also be at Writen in the Sand at Beach Books in Seaside, Oregon on Oct. 17. Watch for details.
  • On Oct. 31 I'll be presenting a "Zombie Fest" at the Cannon Beach Library. Details soon.

Back from NYC, on to Bob's in Lincoln City, Ore.

Photo from last year's Author Signing at Bob's Beach Books.

I hope you followed my NYC Exploits on Instagram.

Yes, I got behind due to "technical difficulties" and a PACKED schedule, but I'll have more NYC posts and an update soon.

However, I wanted to get this post made as the event is this weekend! Yikes!

And yes, I will be at Bob's Beach Books in Lincoln City, Ore. this Saturday, August 15 along with several other west coast authors.

Meet authors and pick up some great books.
This is a BIG author signing event and you won't want to miss it. The weather is supposed to be
fantastic.

The event runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Bob's is right on the ocean side of Hwy 101 in Lincoln City. Look for all the canopies.

Notes:

I'll  be there signing all my books, but especially my best-seller Louie, the lonely Lighthouse.

In addition, my Bayou Boys Adventure books and my book The Amish vs. the Zombies will be at the PDX ComicCon September 19 and 20, and I plan to be signing at the Coos Bay Historical and Maritime Museum October 10. More details to come.

Follow my "Author in NYC Adventure" via Instagram

In just a few short days (Aug. 6) I'll be jetting off for a bite of the Big Apple and you will be able to follow my exploits through Instagram. Maybe you're asking yourself, "so what?" Okay, let me 'splain why it might be worth your time.

The National Lighthouse Museum, Staten Is., NY
I can't think of anything.

Just kidding. They say it's "the city that never sleeps" and I may not sleep either. I'll be busy cramming all I can into five days. Sure, I'll be signing books and talking about my new book Louie, the Lonely Lighthouse at the National Lighthouse Museum on Staten Island for National Lighthouse Day (Aug. 8), but I'll be having some touristy fun, too.

AND I'll be posting pics from my adventures in Times Square and the Theater District, The NYC Disney Store (of course), Park Avenue and Central Park. I'll share photos from downtown, uptown, and China Town. And they'll be plenty of pictures of the NY harbor cruise (including Lady Liberty), plus Tom's Restaurant from Seinfeld, a walk along the High Line (a park trail made from the old elevated train tracks), Battery Park and the 911 Twin Towers Memorial, and so much more.

I'll also be sharing my dining experiences in images, too--anything and everything from a Coney Dog to a Jewish Deli delight; NY-style pizza or whatever. Nothing fancy though. I'll show you how to do NYC on the cheap.

Who knows what surprises await us? Just know that you're invited along to share the journey vicariously through the magic of the internet.

I want to be a part of it, New York, New York

National Lighthouse Museum site on Staten Is.
You may know that I recently mentioned the possibility of going to NYC, having been invited to do a book signing at the National Lighthouse Museum for Louie, the Lonely Lighthouse.

Well, I’m stepping into the water on this. I still need to raise the funds, and I’m working on that, but the point is that I laid a fleece out for a sign this past weekend and the fleece came up wet.* So, I committed (and I’m scared).

At any rate, I have now been scheduled to do a book discussion and signing at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 8 at the new (soon to open) National Lighthouse Museum on Staten Island. I am also to be a guest at the ribbon cutting ceremony 11 a.m. Friday, August 7.

I probably won’t make any serious money on the deal, but it is an honor and an opportunity (or excuse) to go somewhere I've dreamed about for a long time. The book, Louie, the Lonely Lighthouse IS missional, too, so it’s an influential way to spread its valuable message. And it will be sold through their gift shop henceforth.

Therefore, I would appreciate your prayers that everything works out.

The trip is going to cost me about $600 for airfare plus food and ground transportation while I’m there. Fortunately, I have a place to stay, thanks to the graciousness of my niece, Leah. If I come up with some “fun money” as well—to see a couple Broadway shows (also a dream)—that would be great bonus. If not, so be it.

Artist concept of finished renovation for the National Lighthouse Museum

There IS another way you can help me out, too. And that is to buy a book or two, if you would. (And help spread the word by sharing in your social networks.)

I thank you in advance.

Listen to (and see) the lyrics to the iconic song sung by Frank Sinatra here.

*I use this Biblical image as a metaphor, to understand the meaning you may wish to read the account in Judges 6:37.

Good News for Louie on Independent Bookstore Day

Official logo for IBD 2015.

This just in:

I'll be signing the new book* (Louie, the Lonely Lighthouse) on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Beach Books, 616 Broadway, Seaside, Oregon.

May 2 is National Independent Bookstore Day and several other authors will also be at the store that day.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and I'm not sure of my hours yet, but I'll post more details and schedules when they come available.

I'll also be at Jupiter's Books in Cannon Beach, for the May 9 Local Indie Author & Book Fair, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

I'm still working on booking (no pun intended) some other venues for Saturdays in May. A local lighthouse? Maritime museum? Bookstores?  Keep an eye peeled for details.

And (BONUS) here's another illustration from Louie by Roxanne Bowman! >

*I'll also have my other books. Hope to see you there.

Local Indie Authors at PDX Home & Garden Show

My books will be available at the Fall Portland Home & Garden Show along with many other books by other local indie authors. While I won't be there, my books will be. I encourage you to come on out and check out the many titles you can bring into your home.

The admission is $10, but you can get a $2 off coupon here: http://www.otshows.com/pfhs/the-show/discount-coupon/

If you want your books by me signed you should come out and buy them this Saturday (Sept. 20) at the Local Indie Author Meet & Greet at the 63rd St. Brewed Awakenings from 10 a.m. until noon (sse the post about the event below). Five other great authors will be there, too. The event is free.

If you can't make either of those I'll be in town signing my new childrens' picture book with the illustrator April Bullard on November 22. Time and place TBA. We'll have our other books available as well. This will be my last appearance in Vancouver this year.
